The Thirty-ninth Annual Memorial Day Exercises were conducted at the World War II Memorial Monument on Memorial Way, which was lined with flags placed by volunteers, friends, and family members memory of deceased veterans. The ceremony included the traditional Firing of Volleys and Taps as well as the laying of a memorial wreath. This year the feature was an Old Glory Ceremony performed by the Naval Health Clinic Hospital Corpsmen in memory of Second Lieutenant Robert Thorpe. The 88th Army Band under the direction of CW2 Todd Garrepy and 1SG Cliff Soares provided music. The Reverend Robert L. Marciano, Chaplain, Colonel, USAF, and Command Chaplain, RI National Guard gave the Invocation and Benediction. The presiding officer for the program was RADM John N. Christenson, USN, President of the Naval War College, and the special guest speaker was Dr. John Parrish, Vietnam Veteran and author of Autopsy of War.
