The federally funded program prepares students for success in high school and college. Many services are offered to selected students, including college preparatory classes, tutoring, counseling/advising, a six-week campus-based summer experience and college planning.
Rhode Island College Upward Bound targets students in Central Falls High School, East Providence High School, Shea High School, Central High School, Hope High School and Mount Pleasant High School.
Upward Bound is the only one of its kind in Rhode Island, said Mariam Z. Boyajian, program director. I encourage all eligible students and their families to learn more about the programs 47-year history, outstanding college placement and graduation rates, and unique opportunities.
High school students in grades 9, 10 and 11 are eligible if they meet specific federal guidelines relative to income and educational level of parents, and are citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
Now through mid-November, information sessions will be held in targeted high schools. Interested students are encouraged to speak to their high school guidance counselors, call the Upward Bound office at RIC
