The free, industry-specific job fairs were launched last February in an effort to target a staggeringly- high unemployment rate among Rhode Islanders, and to aligned skilled workers with available jobs in Rhode Island companies. Among them was a marquee event targeting the states military, veterans and their families. This year, another special job fair for those individuals will be held, and a high-profile roundtable discussion about the emerging role of the states culinary arts/ food sciences industry.
Vendors participating today included: Access Point RI, Blue Cross Blue Shield of RI, Charter Care Health Partners, Gateway Healthcare, Inc. Homefront Healthcare, John E. Fogarty Center, Providence School Department, Providence VA Medical Center, Women & Infants Hospital, Rhode Island Free Clinic and West Bay Residential Services. The positions that were being hired included residential managers, nurse care managers, special education teachers, treatment specialists, nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, speech/physical and occupational therapists, social workers, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses; biology, chemistry, physics and general science teachers; food service workers, medical support assistants, administrative personnel, case managers and more.
The job fairs are also sponsored by the Workforce Investment Board, the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, and the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.
