Passport fees are set by the U.S. Department of State and are the same wherever one applies. For passports processed through Pawtucket Library, part of the regular fee benefits the adult literacy classes offered at the library. Through a collaboration with the RI Family Literacy Initiative (RIFLI), the library offers a wide range of English as a Second Language classes; a portion of the passport fees directly support these classes.
Passport customers have noted the convenience and ease of applying for their passports at the library during the evening; many are also pleased to have the opportunity to support the library programs at no extra cost.
In addition to offering services at Pawtucket Library, the librarys Passport Acceptance Facility also travels to colleges, other area libraries, and business to offer on-site services to people wishing to apply for passports.
The Pawtucket Librarys Passport Acceptance Facility is open Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 9:00pm. The library is located at 13 Summer St. in Pawtucket. For more information, call (401) 725-3714, ext. 212, or visit www.pawtucketlibrary.org. The Department of States website also offers complete information on the passport application process at www.travel.state.gov.
