Over the past two decades, Amos House has grown in both size and scope of services provided to meet the needs of the Rhode Island Community. The current campus has become extremely limited in its ability to meet growing demands. The Rebuilding Lives campaign will support the construction of a new, three level facility that will be host to a new soup kitchen with larger dining hall, staff offices, classrooms, community rooms, and training centers.
This new building, the first major construction at Amos House since the soup kitchen was erected in 1983, will address current space issues and allow for future growth. Amos House has worked to ensure that every inch of space in the 28,600 square foot building has a purpose, and architecturally its design will blend into the fabric of the neighborhood.
Consolidating all of our staff and services into one location will greatly help us to better serve our community. Says Maggie Meany, Chief Operating Officer of Amos House, It will help us do better the things we do best.
Of the $6 million to be raised through Rebuilding Lives: the Capital Campaign for the Amos House Community Center, $5 million will be earmarked for construction of the building and $1 million for maintenance endowment.
Amos House is proud to announce that to date they only need to raise an additional $1.5 million to reach the construction goal. Pledges raised include over $40,000 that has been voluntarily given from Amos House staff, half of whom are former guests.
Our donors have been very generous in their support of this capital campaign, said Hayes. There is genuine understanding that the investments being made are not only in a building, they are improving, changing, and more often than not, saving the lives of fellow Rhode Islanders.
Amos House now turns to the community for financial support to assist in the completion of the public phase of its Rebuilding Lives Capital Campaign. This project will allow Amos House to:
" Seat 20% more guests at each meal in the new soup kitchen
" Provide a dedicated Social Services suite for guests
" Accept up to 50% more students into the Carpentry and Culinary Training Programs
" Offer a dedicated Community Room for the Day Programs and Social Services sessions, with seating for all guests
" Consolidate administrative spaces in order to free up important space in other buildings on campus
