If you or someone you know a friend, relative, neighbor or former colleague is looking for work, we may be able to assist you; or if you are a business owner or Human Resources representative looking for qualified talented personnel and are actively hiring we can help.
For the second year in a row, Mayor Allan Fung and I, in our respective roles as heads of Workforce Board of Providence /Cranston, have offered free industry-specific job fairs for Rhode Islands unemployed. We are doing this with Workforce Solutions of Providence/ Cranston, the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce and the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.
We launched these job fairs early last year in response to Rhode Islands staggeringly high unemployment problem, knowing there are steps we can take to chip away at it. The job fairs are successful because they work: we align job seekers and businesses looking for talent, at no cost to either. By bringing the two together, each can determine who makes the best fit for what position.
To date, we have held 13 job fairs with nearly 2000 job seekers and 320-plus individual businesses that were actively hiring. We have more planned for the rest of 2014, including one later this month April 22 - focused on Military/ Veterans and their families.
This free event will be held at the Providence Career and Technical Academy, 91 Fricker Street, and will feature dozens of companies and a several free workshops to help you build your resumeyoure your presentation skills.
