Census Ten Minutes, Ten Questions in 2010. That is the call to all residents in America on April 1st 2010 Census Day. The Census only comes along once every ten years; so the opportunity to help your state and your community is available to all US residents by completing the Census questionnaire. It takes only Ten Minutes to answer Ten Questions that could make the difference in the amount of federal dollars that comes to Rhode Island from Washington (undercount in Rhode Island 2000 Census was significant in some communities), or the number of Representatives the State of Rhode Island is entitled to in the US Congress.

Marketing agencies use the same Census data to determine the best locations to build commercial centers, manufacturing plants or retail outlets; the list goes on and on. Quite frankly, Census Data may be the best tool for communities to record and make available the demographics and resources of their community to businesses, educational organizations, medical clinics and related support outlets as well as small retail and big box stores alike. The economic consequences of not being counted is dire and has the effect of reducing the amount of federal dollars that might come to Rhode lsland to meet the needs of its residents.

However, I believe the most compelling argument for completing the Census is as a resident of America I have a duty and a responsibility to Be Counted, after all I benefit every day by living in the greatest Country in the world. Americans, and soon to be Americans that enjoy the quality of life that living in the USA offers, should want to participate in the process that ensures that quality of life; and if for no other reason than to acquiesce to the US Constitutions requirement that a Census be conducted every ten years.

So as the Chair, of the Correct Count Committee for the State of Rhode Island I implore you, your family and friends to spread the word that the Census is important for all of us. And remember Ten Minutes, Ten Questions in 2010.
