The current job market has openings for skilled workers, and yet many Rhode Islanders are in need of stable employment and economic opportunity. Our job fairs are helping to connect Rhode Islanders seeking work with employers who are looking to fill open positions, said Mayor Taveras.
Rhode Island has a rich history in manufacturing and it is crucial that we ensure that it remains part of our future. This job fair will help match employers with Rhode Islanders who have the skills they need to keep the industry a vibrant part of our economy. As Mayor, I will continue to do everything that I can to help my residents achieve economic success through employment opportunities like these industry specific job fairs, said Mayor Fung.
Companies that participated in todays fair included Alert Solutions, American Tele-Connect Services, Bank of America, Blount Fine Foods, Judge Technology Solutions, Lopco Contracting, MetLife, National Lumber, Providence Veterans Administration Medical Center, Remax City Side, RIBI Security, Symmetry Medical, Providence Public Schools, Toray Plastics America, Inc., UPS, Vibco Vibrators and Yushin America.
The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be a partner with the Cities of Providence and Cranston in this important effort. Through forums such as job fairs, employers gain access to qualified job seekers and at the same time save employers time and money in the search and hiring process, said Laurie White, President of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.
The free, industry-specific job fairs were launched last year in an effort to target the unemployment rate in Rhode Island by aligning skilled workers with available jobs in local companies. To date, more than 1900 area residents and 317 companies have participated in the job fairs.
