  • The Center for Hispanic Policy & Advocacy Receives National Council of La Raza Family Strengthening Opportunity Award

    The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) has selected The Center for Hispanic Policy & Advocacy in Providence, Rl as the winner of the 2009 NCLR/Annie E. Casey Foundation Family Strengthening Opportunity Award Program. In 2009, NCLR partnered with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, to expand the successful efforts and reach of the Family Strengthening Awards Program. Through this pilot expansion, NCLR began offering this year one Family Strengthening Opportunity Award to an NCLR Affiliate that has embraced family strengthening concepts and approaches and has a concrete plan for how to proceed in implementing or expanding its family strengthening commitment.
    Through this Opportunity Award, NCLRs Affiliate CHISPA, will be able to participate in learning activities about family strengthening, including specific family strengthening approaches; help educate and train its staff about general and specific family strengthening practices and strategies, and initiate the replication of a particular family strengthening activities at their site. CHisPA is very excited about receiving the award from NCLR; this opportunity will help us continue to create a comprehensive, holistic, family centered model that reaches agency-wide, stated Interim Executive Director, Michelle Cortes-Harkins.
