March 8, 2018 - TIMES2 Institute and Roger Williams University (RWU)
will host STEM Talks RI Youth, the second in the STEM Talks RI series. Speakers will
address two hundred middle to high school students from Rhode Island public and
RI’s mission is to stimulate
interest in STEM fields for underrepresented populations by exposing them to
professionals that they identify with so that they see themselves in STEM
careers and know that they have the ability to pursue them if they so choose,”
said Erin Conley, TIMES2 Institute Director.
“We hope to
inspire the next generation of problem solvers, innovators, and world changers
from right here in Rhode Island!” said Dr. Rudolph Moseley Jr., TIMES2 Executive
The event features three speakers: Professor Lyrical, Tara Pratap
Ebsworth and Justin
Shaifer. Professor Lyrical will speak to students about the intersection of
STEM and Hip Hop. Tara Pratap Ebsworth is an MIT graduate working at Ximedica,
is passionate about breaking down barriers for people from underrepresented
groups to enter engineering. Justin Shaifer is the Executive Director of Fascinate Inc., will speak on Why
STEM is Dope.
This is the
second in a series of three smaller STEM talks, the first, hosted in
collaboration with Warwick Public Schools, brought speakers to engage with both
formal and informal educators. The final in the three-part series will take
place this spring with student speakers who will share their STEM successes
with peers and community members.
