Providence, R.I., April 11, 2012 Visits to 13 colleges, a science camp, and an all-day Getting to College Conference promise to keep hundreds of students in The College Crusade of Rhode Island busy learning during the coming school vacation week, April 16-20. For five days straight, Crusaders will visit colleges and universities all over the region, including Boston College, Brown University, Merrimack College, Mitchell College, Newbury College, Nichols College, Northeastern University, Regis College, Rhode Island College, Roger Williams University, Salve Regina University, Trinity College, and Wheaton College. Participating students will tour campus, talk with undergraduates, and learn firsthand about the opportunities and challenges of college life.

April 18 and 19 also feature Science Camp, two daylong science workshops for middle school students, with hands-on projects and activities in flight engineering, architecture, bridge building, and animal studies. Science Camp will be held at Segue Institute for Learning in Central Falls.

On April 20, a Getting to College Conference will give 11th-grade Crusaders a jumpstart on the college application process, including hands-on workshops on how to write an effective personal essay. Featured speakers at the conference are Brian Stevens, Admissions Officer at Rhode Island College, and Jason Moniz, Student Development Counselor at the Community College of Rhode Island. The conference will be held at Jorge Alvarez High School in Providence.
